"The Good, the Bad and the Really Ugly - DSNZPARM"
"zIIP, zAAP, and IFL: the Special in Specialty Engines"

Topic Synopses
  • The Best Defense is a Good Offense: DB2 V8 Upgrade
The best way to protect your DB2 for z/OS investment is to aggressively prepare for the next release. Just because migrating to DB2 for z/OS Version 8 may only be a dream today, that is no reason to put off the planning and preparation for the almost guaranteed move to you will have to make to Version 8 tomorrow. This presentation will review and discuss the things you can do while on Version 7 (or before) so you are in the right shape to do a Version 8 migration.

  • The Good, the Bad and the Really Ugly - DSNZPARM
Yes, that's right, another discussion on DSNZPARM. This presentation will examine the hidden, not so hidden (opaque), and visible ZPARMs. It will discuss parms that might affect your V8 and V9 migration, or are new to V9. If you give this presentation a listen, you will leave with the ability to separate the facts from the fiction the next time someone speaks ZPARM to you. Some of this presentation will not be available until DB2 9 goes GA.

  • zIIP, zAAP, and IFL: the Special in Specialty Engines
Yup, hardware. And although not as cool as SQL, still the essential component to the success of running DB2 in your environment. And the latest cool hardware we keep hearing about is zIIPs and specialty engines. So this presentation will do a deep dive into the zIIP specialty engine, but not before a complete specialty engine history lesson and a look at all of the specialty engines that arrived before zIIP. Did you know that DB2, in some way, can use them all?
